One of the challenges this project was to design an attached housing development with the feel of a Single Family Residence community. Our objective was to create resort-like sustainable villas that reflects the Craftsman style of architecture with a contemporary feel of elegance and warmth.

The concept that was developed utilizes large usable courtyards between each home which allowed the architectural elevations to feel separate from its neighbor. Heavy consideration to its local Chongqing climate was demonstrated by creating large outdoor spaces that took advantage of the opportunity for cross ventilation of the spaces inside. Each villa was designed with relaxation and comfort in mind. To complement the beauty of its surrounding golf course and natural environment, the design implemented a natural color palette, graceful wing-like roof lines, shingle and sandstone-bluff exteriors, clinker-brick masonry, rich woodwork and natural stone surfaces.

These villas take full advantage of the near by golf course, the natural river, and the surrounding mountains. Maximizing natural sunlight, ventilation, and views was the goal to achieve for this unique project. Large loggia, terrace and outdoor sitting areas were introduced to promote outdoor living. Large windows and doors were used to unify the interior and exterior spaces. The open sunken courtyard brings both natural light and fresh air to the basement and creates an outdoor activity space.
